Project Associate: Sustainable Packaging Coalition

GreenBlue operates a variety of projects that are national and international in scope, including the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). The SPC convenes a group of companies worldwide working to increase sustainability in their packaging products and processes. SPC staff provides technical resources, education, and tools for member companies, including hosting two annual educational conferences.

Duties

  • Conducting technical research and presenting written findings related to sustainable packaging issues. Example topics include sustainable design; recycling, composting, and other packaging end-of-life options; solid waste management policy; forest certification; and on-package recycling label design
  • Outreach and communications for SPC membership and How2Recycle program
  • Writing summaries of research and reports
  • Conference and event management
  • Updating content in SPC educational training materials

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (packaging, environmental, or physical sciences preferred)
  • One to two years work experience
  • Fast learner and desire to grow sustainability knowledge base
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps, and Creative Suite preferred
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
  • Interest in GreenBlue mission
  • Location: Charlottesville, VA

Duties

  • Conducts technical research. Examples of past topics include sustainable design; recycling, composting, and other packaging end-of-life options; solid waste management policy; forest certification; and on-package label design
  • Collects and analyzes data
  • Assists in writing reports and grant proposals
  • Develops and manages project plans, including the project budget
  • Publicly represents the organization at meetings
  • Contributes to outreach and communication for SPC membership retention and recruitment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, packaging, or a related field and three years of related experience or Master’s degree in environmental science, packaging, or a related field and one year of related experience
  • Knowledge of sustainability and design or expertise in one or more environmental fields
  • Project management skills
  • Financial management ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps, and Creative Suite preferred
  • Packaging industry experience preferred
  • Interest in GreenBlue mission
  • Location: Charlottesville, VA
  • Must be available for overnight travel
